The reality of Holy Family Parish.  Holy Family Parish, Porirua East, is best described as being rich in everything except money. It is rich in the many different cultures that make up our congregation. It is rich in its tradition of faith. It is rich in music. It is rich in a spirituality of service. It is truly a family.

Parish Priest

Father Isaac Ramesh Songa

Father Isaac was born in Ranga Puram in the Eluru district of India. In 2001 he joined the religious order of Missionaries of faith. He studied Economics, commerce as well as Philosophy.

 

From 2008 to 2012, he studied Theology at Urbania University in Rome and earned a master's degree in psychology in 2019.

 

After joining the Missionaries of Faith in 2001, Fr. Isaac served as an assistant priest starting in 2019, before becoming our Parish priest in 2024.

Father Nicholas Phone Myint

Father Nicholas was born on December 11 1982, as of four siblings. He faced the heartbreaking loss of his younger brother, who passed away from meas at just three years old. In 2002, he entered the seminary, beginning a profound journey of spiritual commitment.

 

In 2016, he was ordained as a priest, becoming a vessel of God's grace, prepared to serve with steadfast devotion and limitless love.

In 2023, Father Nicholas Joined our Holy Family faith community as our assistant Priest.

Order of Brigidine Sisters

Sister Anne Phipps

​Sr. Anne Phipps continues to serve our Holy Family faith community where she has been a member since the 1960s.

 

She is part of the Brigidine Order. She was also the Principal of Bishop Viard College from 1991 - 1996. Her wisdom, experience and humility continue to be a source of comfort and guidance for us all.

 

She now contributes columns in our newsletters where she provides deep insights and messages that blend current events and how we as Catholics should respond in prayer and action.

Safeguarding at Holy Family Parish

Safeguarding is promoting an environment which respects and acknowledges the dignity of each human being, and where people feel valued and safe. An important aspect of safeguarding is responding to concerns of harm or abuse. Pope Francis has made it clear he expects the Catholic Church on every level to implement whatever steps are necessary to ensure the protection of children and vulnerable adults and to respond to their needs with fairness and mercy. The Catholic Church in Aotearoa New Zealand has adopted the “Guidelines for the prevention of and response to sexual abuse in the Catholic Church in Aotearoa New Zealand” (National Safeguarding Guidelines). This policy is part of a national strategy to implement the National Safeguarding Guidelines.
